Sophia MacMillan
(LMT)
Sophia is a licensed massage therapist with foundational training in Swedish massage from Lane Community College, though stylistically influenced by myofascial techniques. She moves slowly and encourages open communication to assess comfort and sensation. She compassionately invites your body to exist as it is now and will support you through any shifts that may occur in one session or over the course of many.
Sophia has a reverence and passion for abdominal massage with over 60 hours of continuing education spanning Integrated Viscera Techniques and abdonimal fascia work, cesarean scar healing, and Thai abdominal work. Abdominal massage is great for balancing the nervous system, TMJD and neck tension, low back or pelvic/sacral pain, rib pain, digestive complaints, supporting hypermobility and EDS, opening breath related structures, improving organ function, and more. Abdominal work can be very potent and may sometimes take a couple of sessions to bring presence into the abdominal space.
Sophia is a kinesthetically curious human. Her work is informed by a life long relationship with dance, breath, and movement. Formerly a professional ballet dancer, she has spent many years exploring the worlds of codified and free form dance. She holds a BFA with honors from Purchase College, SUNY in dance and performance. An avid practitioner of yoga asana and pranayama, she orients her free time around being in motion. Living bodies are a tremendous source of amazement and curiosity for her.
