Katie McLaughlin

(MS, PT)

Katie is a native of the PNW and first came to Eugene to be on the UO track team as a javelin thrower. An injury to her shoulder sparked her interest in athletic training and eventually led to her completing her graduate degree in PT in Boston. While on the East Coast, she worked as a research assistant at Harvard Medical School and also helped with spine research at Dartmouth Spine Institute. Having traveled and worked all over the US, she found Eugene still offers the best combination of all worlds and returned to start working with chronic pain patients again.

Physical Therapy is still her passion after all these years because it combines the science of the body with the art of guiding a person on their journey to recovery. She feels that listening to the patient is crucial; not just auditorily, but also with her hands to guide her as a manual therapist. She is a strong proponent of stabilization exercises but having worked with muscle biofeedback (sEMG) she knows how crucial it is to get correct firing of the muscles, whether it be for lumbar stabilization or with Ehlers-Danlos hypermobile patients. When not at work, you can often find her burrowing in her garden, playing with her dog, or out kayaking in the glorious scenery.
